BDA Education Certificate in Dental Radiography

The BDA online Radiography program teaches you how to use X-rays safely, and how to take common radiographs. The program leads to the BDA Education Certificate in Dental Radiography, a nationally-recognised qualification that entitles you to take radiographs unsupervised. The program is approved by the British Society of Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology, and the Society and College of Radiographers.

Key information
 

To be eligible for the program you must:
 

  • Be a GDC-registered dental care professional

  • Have the support of a GDC-registered dentist

  • Have access to radiographic equipment necessary to complete the Portfolio.

  • Availability: 8 programs per year

  • Program type: Online

  • CPD: 40 hours verifiable

  • Cost: £895(includes exam fee)

How you'll study
 

We will provide you with everything that you need, including the textbook: ‘Radiography and Radiology for DCPs' by Eric Whaites. Our dedicated teaching staff will email you every week with advice, and are available to answer your questions from the day you enrol until the day of your exam. We also provide revision notes, quizzes and mock examinations to help you make the most of your study time.

 

Online component
 

The program starts with 25 e-learning modules and quizzes which you’ll have 8 weeks to complete. You’ll learn the following topics:

  • Introduction to radiation

  • Introduction to radiography

  • Intra-oral radiography

  • Panoramic radiography

  • Other practical techniques

  • Quality assurance and the law

  • Image interpretation.


Practical portfolio
 

Once you’ve completed the e-learning modules, you’ll be ready to take radiographs under supervision and start building your Practical Portfolio:
 

  • 10 panoramics

  • 10 pairs of bitewings

  • 20 paralleling technique periapicals.
     

You’ll have approximately 5 months to complete the Practical Portfolio. You’ll then have a revision period to prepare for the final exam.


The final assessment is a 1 hour, online examination (held in March, September and November of each year).

You have to register 8 days before the program start date. To start on the 16th June, you have to be registered by the 8th June.

You will now pay to register - (Price includes exam fee)
