Employers: What is an Apprenticeship?

Bringing on an apprentice is an excellent way to welcome motivated individuals who bring enthusiasm and innovative perspectives to your team.

Apprenticeships are a proven and effective way to recruit new talent, upskill existing staff, or retrain team members.
At Dental Training Ltd, we offer the flexibility to deliver training right within your practice, reducing disruption while maximizing the benefits.

Hiring an apprentice not only provides fresh ideas and enthusiasm, but it also fosters loyalty, as apprentices often feel a strong sense of commitment to the practice that gave them their first opportunity in the dental field.

Great Value!
Apprenticeships offer exceptional value for dental practices. If you're a non-levy employer, you’ll pay just 5% of the course costs, with the government covering 95%. Additionally, if you’re a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) with fewer than 50 employees, you can access free training for apprentices aged 16-21.

Employers also receive a £1,000 incentive for each apprentice aged 16-18 and benefit from no employer National Insurance Contributions for apprentices under 25. For example, for an apprentice earning £12,000 annually, this could result in savings of £740 in tax contributions over the course of the program.

Wages
Employers can opt to pay the minimum apprenticeship wage for the first 12 months, making it a cost-effective way to fund an apprentice’s wage. However, we always recommend considering the apprentice's personal circumstances when determining their pay.

Course Fees
Please note that the course fees are payable by the employer, but with the significant financial incentives and government support available, it’s a highly affordable and valuable investment in your practice’s future.

Let Dental Training Ltd help you build a strong, skilled, and loyal team with our apprenticeship programs!

What’s required from you as an employer?

To ensure successful completion of the apprenticeship, apprentices should have an employment contract. The course is designed to fit within this timeframe, with apprentices required to dedicate 20% (at least 6 hours) of their working week to “off-the-job” training. This training includes compulsory webinar attendance (1.5 hours), with the remaining hours spread across the workweek to provide flexibility for your practice.

Workplace observations are scheduled throughout the apprenticeship, with minimal disruption to your practice. Initially, we conduct a workplace visit to ensure both the apprentice and their mentor are satisfied with the program. During this visit, we’ll also support the team with any queries and perform a Health & Safety check.

Please note, the 20% off-the-job training does not include learner reviews, which involve the learner, their portfolio manager/mentor, and assessor, nor does it cover Maths and English support. These additional elements will be arranged separately with the learner’s portfolio assessor in advance.

By partnering with Dental Training Ltd, we make the process smooth and flexible, ensuring your practice benefits from skilled, well-trained dental professionals while minimizing any disruption to daily operations.
